Lee Hi appeared on the latest broadcast of “Yoo Hee Yeol’s Sketchbook”!
To kick off her first appearance on the program in four years, Lee Hi sang her 2012 debut song “1, 2, 3, 4.”
After settling down to chat with host Yoo Hee Yeol, Lee Hi commented, “I’ve moved to a new agency and have prepared new music.” Yoo Hee Yeol praised her first performance, and Lee Hi responded, “It’s a song I sang when I first debuted at 17 years old, so I sang a rearranged adult version.”
Regarding her recent appearance on music variety show “Begin Again,” Lee Hi shared, “I don’t get many calls with regards to broadcasts. I feel like they think, ‘She probably won’t do it.’ I appeared on ‘Begin Again’ because of AKMU’s Soo Hyun‘s suggestion. I immediately accepted. They thought I wouldn’t do it, so they told Soo Hyun to ask me.”
Yoo Hee Yeol mentioned his agency artist and “Begin Again” cast member Jung Seung Hwan being unable to take his eyes off of Lee Hi. She adorably responded, “I know. I felt so pressured so I looked at Soo Hyun. Although I became a singer to receive attention, I tend to hide once I actually receive it.”
Despite only being 23 years old, Lee Hi has already been promoting as a singer for eight years. She commented, “I feel this while I’m promoting, but it’s nice to be youthful and young. People look upon me as if I’m younger, but there’s no need to act more adult-like as a response.”
She revealed, “When people ask, ‘Are you the same age as Soo Hyun?’ I say we’re similar,” despite their 3-year age gap.
Lee Hi later expressed regret that even though she’s been a singer for eight years, she’s only promoted for about two and a half years. She commented, “I want to correct that,” and began talking about what it’s like at her new agency AOMG.
She shared, “AOMG is so nice. Even the employees are young. I was just watching rehearsals and they all look like my friends and uncles. I like that they act comfortably towards me.”
Lee Hi continued, “After my contract ended with my agency, I worried that I wouldn’t get contacted by anyone. However, I fortunately received calls from many agencies. I confessed my concerns to Epik High, saying, ‘What if no agency contacts me?’ They told me there was no way that would happen and to just clear my mind. People really started contacting me starting January 1,” even though Lee Hi announced her departure from YG Entertainment on December 31.
She added, “Among them, AOMG contacted me the fastest, and we held our meeting first.”
Giving his own agency a shoutout, Yoo Hee Yeol asked, “Was Antenna an option?” Lee Hi replied, “I didn’t receive a call, but my fans often said that they would like if I went to Antenna.”
Lee Hi additionally shared, “Whenever I look at legendary singers, I think that you have to be able to sing like them in order to be a singer. Every time I see people like that, I think, ‘I have to quit.’ Lee Sun Hee appears like a young girl, but as soon as she begins to sing, I think the speakers are going to explode.”
She also revealed, “Lee Sun Hee called me once for a collaboration, but we couldn’t get in contact because I was transferring agencies and other problems,” expressing her disappointment.
Lee Hi later confessed she was a fan of How Do You Dool, Yoo Hee Yeol and Yoo Jae Suk’s project group for “Infinite Challenge” in 2013. To make up for the lack of screen time he got while in the group, Yoo Hee Yeol and Lee Hi performed a cute collaboration stage to “Please Don’t Go My Girl” by How Do You Dool.
Lastly, Lee Hi talked about her current promotions with “HOLO,” sharing, “I like new promotions. For this album, I participated in even the smallest details. I will promote with the mindset of a rookie. I also really want to go on variety programs.” Watch her performance of “HOLO” below!
